Erwin,
One of the reasons I bought a Volvo (98 V70) was for the towing capacity and I hate minivans/SUVs. I have a 14' tent trailer which is +-2000lbs dry. Then, I'll add water, propane and stuff as much camping gear in the trailer as I can. Then, I'll fold down the small part of the back seat, fill up the back of the car with 2 coolers (full), 24 beer and other camping neccessities. Then hookup the trailer, load up the family (wife + 2 kids). Drive a little slower than normal and still manage to pass cars on single lane highways. ;-) The only differences are 1) back of car sits a little low 2) can't pass as fast as ussual and 3) need way more room/time to stop. Otherwise, no sweat. What your planning is easy.
