I've considered a whip from a VW myself. IMHO they don't look bad, kind of makes the car look like an R/C model! ;^)

My only criteria beyond it's actually working well enough to justify drilling a hole in the car is that it be removeable. Something that would unscrew in case you need to carry on the roof.
