To answer your question, after the last bubble sighting, I ended up putting in about 3 quarts to top it up. I left the car sitting for a while so the residual fluid would make it's way down the tube and I could get a good reading.

I did this about two weeks ago and reported my experience here. Scroll down for one of my posts titled "flushed my tranny this weekend...easy!"

Total amount used was 15 quarts to get nice clean fluid coming out and topping up when finished.
