rotor replacement question 850

I'm ready to take my '97 850 in the shop for rear brakes. I called the garage today (they specialize in Volvo's) and they told me when you replace the pads on Volvo's, you also need to replace the rotors everytime. I'm a fairly new Volvo owner, but never heard of this before. Can anybody shed some light on this? thanks.
