Oxygen sensors... 850 1994

Thanks fo the ideas on my earlier problem of a weak short and long term mixture code. I checked the vacuum hoses and they look ok..reseated a few and when I pulled the one off to the bullet in the driverside wheelwell next to the bigger cannister there was still a vacuum.
I found a slightly loose hose under the car and past the engine following the fuel lines and when I disconnected it there was some white crystalline material (residue) that I shook out. What the hell could that be? Someone in an earlier posting I found in a search suggested to spray all the vacuum hoses with carb cleaner and listen for an increase in rpm. Is there any produst out there that won't damage hoses, rubber and plastic that I should try? My next attempt will be an Oxygen sensor if the vacuum hoses seem ok. I've seen a few old posts that suggest a universal 4 wire Bosch sensor if you want to save alot of money over the oem. I also note that there is a suggestion of two O sensors including volvospeed....I only saw one and the Haynes manual only suggests one...anyone know the real answer for a 94 855?
Thanks for all the experts and hackers out there.
