Fault in atuomatic gearbox (flashing arrow light) 850 1994

My 850 Turbo Wagon (1994) was difficult to start. After I got it started the *transmission mode "W" * arrow began to flash. Means that there is a fault in automatic gear box. Does anyone know what this will entail? Says to contact Volvo dealer. My car has 105,000 miles and AC evaporator need to be replaced. I also have an oil leak (turbo hose?). Will it be worth the expense? Volvo dealer has not been completely trustworthy. I could get an independent Volvo mechanic.
Any help would be appreciated.
