I agree about the floor jack. I use mine all the time. If I am doing a job that does not entail taking the wheels off, I put cribbing under the wheels to hold the car up.
I reccomend puting one of the wheels you remove as well as as many jackstands you can under your car when you are working on it.
As a member of a small fire department, we go to at least one fallen car a year. Always have plenty of stuff under your car when you work on it, that way you may be able to gasp in enough air to yell if you get caught. ;)
