"check engine light"? There's a code stored anytime that comes on but a scan tool is required to see it on your '96. I'd suggest finding a technician who has newer FWD Volvo experience as he'd know how to proceed. Without knowing what code(s) is now present, there's no point in guessing here as there's many causes for your CEL to illuminate besides your guess at an O2 sensor or two. Guessing can be costly if and when wrong.
