Diagnostic computer S70

I am trying to find source to purchase diagnostic computer for determining failure codes on car (present: Climate Control, future: engine, others).

Does the same computer read faults and upload/download settings to on-board computers/controllers??

I have '98 V70R and a friend has '99 S70GLT. With two of us to utilize, we figure it may be worth the purchase.

Any ideas?? Thanks,
