S80 2.5T - starts then dies; MAF?

Take a good look inside both parts of the connector - sometimes the pins get pushed back inside the connector, giving a bad connection.

As for running with it disconnected, if the signal from it is really bad or missing, the car's computer may switch to a limp home mode.

Did you take it for a test drive with it unplugged ?

You may find that it did not run as well as you think.

If a pin is pushed back, carefully slide it out the back of the connector and you will see a tang that sticks out to hold it in place - carefully bend it out a bit and put it back in the connector.

In some cars, that connector is unplugged to change the air filter and is prone to damage.
