Brighter bulb usually implies hotter temperature, hotter will destroy the plastic bulb holder over time. There are those who converted to LED, but then that required a modification to the bulb out relay due to the low voltage (some of the Chinese LED's have quality control issues).
If your headlight coverings are plastic, I suggest cleaning and polishing the outside.
Find a flat place to align the headlights after new bulbs. Position the car 1 foot away from a wall. Tape a piece of paper against the wall with the 'beam cutoff' across the middle of the paper. Mark the cutoff beam with a sharpie (close counts). Back the car up 20-25 feet. Adjust the headlights up/down to get the cutoff in the same place as it was in at 1 foot distance.
