XC60 Engine Options

In my travels as buyer in the market for a used XC60 I've noticed that in 2016 (or perhaps midway through 2015) there was an interesting change in the engine offerings.

Up until 2015 there were two options, the 3.2L normally aspirated inline 6 and the 3.0L T6. Then they added the 2.0L 4cylinder "Drive-E" engines, kept the T6, but at some point dropped the 3.2 six in favor of the 2.5T 5-cylinder they were still using in the S/V60. The 5 produces slightly more power and torques than the 3.2 (250/266 vs 240/258). The EPA fuel economy rating of the T5 is one mpg better.

I find this curious and wonder if anyone cares to wager a guess as to why they would revert back to the (presumably older) 5 cylinder design? The 3.2 first showed up in 2008 and while a "big" six seems old school, I don't think it's related to their older designs. Meanwhile the 5 has roots in the 3.0L six that first came to US shores in the 1992 960.
