If I were in your shoes - and my '08 XC70 is getting near - I would pick up a spare and keep it in the car - I would also pull the coils (or have my dealer do it) and inspect them for any signs of damage.
Hopefully, someone will chime in on how to test them, and tell us how to find a coil that has failed
BTW, when I purchased the car with 80K miles, I had the plugs checked, was told that they were original to the car ( they were marked Ford Motors and should have been changed at 60K ) - I had new ones installed - I am quite sure that the coils were in good shape or my dealer knows that I would change them!
