That is a great option! The diagnosis is not based on engine codes, but a rattle that disappears once the system warms up. Knocking on the Cat Converter reproduced the rattle, so the muffler guy thinks there may be deterioration in the converter that will only get worse.
O2 sensors not replaced, and they are causing a fault, but my Volvo mechanic says not a necessary replacement if the car is running OK, which it seems to be.
I don't think I have ever replaced the water pump, though I think I drilled a hole in it once due to a whine. Does that sound right? That may have been on a 740T. The timing belt is suggested every 70K miles. Serpentine belt has been done fairly recently.
In any event, it's nice to know that there is something out there that is NOT a $2500 replacement.
