loose timing belt / Possible dead engine? V70-XC70 1999

Your engine has VVT, so try aligning the timing marks noting the mark on the VVT side. Turn the belt additional 90 degrees and then back to the mark - that reduces tension on the VVT. Verify that the other marks are close and in good shape.

Install a new belt and tensioner, with the marks aligned. Try it out.
