I would check one of the pick & pull yards in CT. In most cases, a simple cleaning will restore the sender. You can check the resistance at the end of the wires with a multimeter to make sure that the unit is working correctly.
My 1995 uses a cannister type sender, also no longer made. The cleaning is on my list as the top 3 gallons are not shown on the gauge. A full tank shows 15 gallons of fuel and the 'empty' light comes on at around 5 gallons remaining.
Besides, $100 for a replacement sensor is nuts!
