Considering a 2002 S60 S60

Unless there is hard documentation regarding maintenance, never believe what is told to you. The car is due for a new timing belt/tensioner. Check for newer struts, and other front end steering components that should have been replaced by now. If it hasn't been treated to synthetic oil, be prepared to service the PCV.

The tranny is a 5 speed and there have been numerous problems with the 2001-2002 versions. The major reason I tell folks to avoid these two model years. Volvo didn't get the programming correct until 2003 and later. And finding a junk yard version is a crap shoot.
The fix could be as simple as replacing the "B" servo gasket which IPD has, or a very expensive rebuild.
