After many years of Volvo 240’s /245’s late 70’s- 80’s, lots of them… I am considering a new (actually used ) upgrade. I have always considered the 240-5’s to be bricks and have not even considered the alternatives, until now. I typically do the distance and commuting driving in my little SPG SAAB turbo and have an appreciation for the “S” in SPG (sport performance group).

I have seen some of the 850’s Only wagons and some actually look cleeean however, I never got the detail about what the various badges represent.

My question, What model/year is the good one, I was considering a 1996 850 R wagon add that I saw in the paper $18.000 w 70K . I don’t even know if this is turbo or what?

Can I find a site that has a year by year listing of the various configurations with all the detail…

I would like to get the best/ as I expect the be with the car for long term 20+ years.

Questions:

What is a 850, 850glt,850r,850T5 and what year and car should I look for in the wagon configuration.

PS, Turbo’s don’t scare me anymore!
