Looking at potential 1994 850 purchase 850 1994

A one owner is rare at that age, so the maintenance history should be good.

The 850 only has two design flaws, the auto tranny fluid must be changed on a regular basis. And the AC evaporator has a tendancy to leak.

I bought a 1996 854 NA with a 5 speed for $1000 and have put another $1,000 into it to make it dependable. It is a great car with about 160K miles.

The 1994 has the OBD ports in the engine compartment, which is a great plus! Diagnose anything and everything.

The body doesn't rust, both sides of all of the body panels have been galvanized. It is easy to repair, compared to other FWD cars, and the parts are much cheaper than the other European cars.

Timing belt is every 70K miles, water pump goes for about 200K.
The clutch can easily last 200K miles.
