'98 XC70 DRIVESHAFT QUESTIONS V70-XC70 1998

I had my driveshaft removed when the center bearing became noisy. But, didn't want to pay the $900 for a rebuilt unit.

1) Has anyone taken their driveshaft to a driveshaft shop and had the center bearing replaced?

2) Why my driveshaft was off the car, one of the CV joints on the end came apart.
Is there a trick to getting it back together? (I tried for an hour, and failed!)
