Heating changes to cooling suddenly! S80 2000

Hi:

I've about 9600 miles on my MY2000 S80 T-6. Yesterday I had been travelling for about 30 mins with the heat control

set at around 72 (both sides) when all of a sudden the heating changed from warm air to cool air. I don't think it was

air-conditioned cool air as it didn't feel cold enough. Maybe it was outside cool air that was being drawn in and vented

into the car through the vents.

I was patient and left things alone hoping the 'system' would quickly realise its error and return to heating again. I

waited for about 3 mins but cool air continued to vent into the car.

Anyhows, I increased the heating control to a higher setting but the cool air persisted. It wasn't until I set the heat

control to the red dot (knob turned fully clockwise) before I was able to have heated air! I left the heat setting at the red

dot for about 1 min and then lowered it back to 72 and heating continued. The cool air anomaly did not return during

the rest of the 90 min drive. The outside temp was in the 50s I believe and it was a moist cloudy day with a slight drizzle

falling.

My wife said that this anomaly has occured several times in the past week during her driving the car.

Questions:

1. Why should this START to happen at this time -- it never has prior to the past week and we've been using heating in

the car for several months now?

2. Have others experienced this anomaly? Is this in fact an anomaly or is the auto climate control system sensing the

car's interior needs 'defrosting' for example ? -- heavens forbid if it does think this as the glass was absolutely clear of

any mist or condensation.

3. If other(s) have experienced this was a solution found, and if so what was it?

4. Does this warrant a service check now rather than leaving it for several months to report, say at my 15,000 miles

service check?

5. Are there 'system' error codes deposited into the car's computer system for this type of malfunction I wonder -- for

helping technicians to diagnose later?

Thanks in advance, and regards... Barry Sharp
