programming keyless transmitter - same as 850? V70-XC70 98

I have seen several posts on the 5 times on/off for programming the keyless remote for the 850. How about the V70? Doesn't seem to be working, I just bought a transmitter on Ebay (put in a new battery). Is it 5 or 6 cycles for V70s? And, let's assume I'm an idiot - are we cycling between key position 1 and 2, 0 and 1, or 0 and 2? I assume you don't actually start the car 5 times (or do you). Sorry if this has been asked a zillion times, but didn't find an answer in the archives. Thanks!
