Usually a waste of time. While some scanners will show 'pending' codes, usually the absence of a check engine light means any codes that were set will be turned off. Remember, the generic scanners will only report on engine and emission related failures, not nice to know things like security problems or manufacture specific items.
Fuel delivery problems will not set codes. A temporary CPS or MAF problem will clear itself upon engine start and not turn on the CEL.
