Through experience, cleaning the ETM is a waste of time, I did it last year until I end up buying one from xemodex. After cleaning the etm, RPM needle stop moving up and down but car seems still sluggish in low gears until it's back to what it's doing after less than 1K miles. You will save a lot of time by removing the fan for R&R and freeing the etm connection from starter back brace and rerouting the new one. With xemodex etm, the car is back to normal and even better I think, esp. when I am driving through the mountain, no more noticeable speed searching and pick is better. So far, I am still sold, xemodex is the way to go. With 99XC 160k miles and counting.
