If you have occasional problems with the alarm going off, I suggest first raising the hood and then closing it with a thud. Sometimes, the hood is not latched firmly enough to be in close contact with the security trigger.
Before you slam the hood shut, check the red LED on the dash board and see if it blinks every 5-7 seconds after you lock the car. A rapid blinking is an indicator that there is a fault.
You are lucky? Sounds like the alarm horn died...
