2001 V70XC AWD possible catalytic converter problem

Thank you for this very detailed and cogent way to proceed to analyze this far from straight forward problem. The shop that scanned my car suggested replacing the CAT for $1500. Given the absence of any symptoms, it didn't make sense to me. I am so grateful to have a viable plan. I love my Volvo and want to maintain it properly, but on the other hand, do not want to pay for unnecessary repairs.

Thanks again. You have been very helpful.
