Stupid, Volvo tricks C70 1998

Stupid, Volvo tricks

In honor of those whom don’t appreciate Volvo’s

I’ve personally been driving Volvos for many years now, and yes I have number of interesting stories about high speed road challenges by other cars.

Some of them included “Chasing down” a BMW Z3 coupe at 130mph in my 98 C70, and as the friend who was with me say’s that BMW is probably still afraid to come back out again.

Any way rather than recounting stories about my 98 C70, 95 850 T-5R, or 1800S

I would like to recount a couple of Funny encounters that I had in my 72 145E.

It was late at night during my long commute home, about 5 years ago.

I happened to be driving in the number 1 lane cruising at about 70mph, the freeway was clear.

When a “pick-up” truck caught up to me and decided to tailgate with his high beams on, being late at night, I didn’t really want to play. Therefore, I moved over one lane, the truck followed so I decided I had had enough and simply pressed the gas and lost him at about 100mph. This same scene transpired a couple more times, until I decided to just stay at the high speed. A little later, down the road I passed a Porsche. I’m not sure exactly what happened next except, shortly thereafter the Porsche caught up, while I still running at about 90mph. The funny thing was that Porsche driver looked over with a bemused look upon his face then speed up a little, being fully awake now I kept pace. At about 105mph the driver look over again only this time I think he was a little amazed to see a Volvo wagon keeping pace at which point

He simply pulled away leaving me in the dust..

Then just few years ago I had a mid 80’s Camaro who, I guess thought that I was challenging him at a stop light, He started to rev his engine while looking over at me.. With a typically nosy 145, so I took his challenge.. We both stopped the gas, he peeled out while I pulled away from him and the light.

The Funny thing is that at the next light when he caught up he look pissed and wanted to go again.

This time I simply smiled and waved as he again began to peel away from the light, then stalled his car.

Just a little note about my 145,

It’s a typical looking Volvo 145E, with a B20E engine, a Isky High lift cam, Hollow rods,

Steel timing gears, Port & polished cylinder head, .030 overbore, K&N air filter, IPD Sway bars,

1975 M41 Overdrive transmission, updated overload coils in the rear, KYB shocks, & a IPD Valve Cover.

Heavy Duty Clutch,

Needless to say, even for a 29 year car it still has more getup and go than many newer cars.
