Confusing is it not S40-V40

The 2001-2 owners manual has the S40 with an AW50-50 tranny, the 2003+ have AW55-50 which has 3309 ATF.

The owner's manual for 2001-2 also states confusingly, that the tranny is a 4 speed and then list the ratios for all 5 gears???

The tranny should take DexIII. Mobile 1 makes a synthetic ATF if you want to use it, but it costs a lot more.

When you drain the sump, just a little more than 3 quarts will pour out. I suggest that you first check the level on the dipstick with the engine off, and then refill to the same point on the dipstick. Don't forget to use a new aluminum crush washer, same as the oil drain plug.
