850 transmission question 850

Question, while replacing my rear main seal on my 1995 volvo 850 turbo, the end of the auto trans dipstick broke off and fell into the transmission. I had to remove the bell housing case (which you can do without removing the pump), I found the piece, but now I have a question on re-sealing that bellhousing case.
You can see where the sealant was placed all around the outside of the case, but not where the actual case meets the circular pump (inside the bell housing).
Is there no sealant there? If so, how does it not leak fluid into the bellhousing?
I'm assuming there may be a large o-ring in the actual bellhousing case that I didn't notice when I put it back together.

Thank you in advance for the help.
Quinn 388.
