Please understand that what you read on these threads is a condensed version of the problems that can occur and should not be considered as a representative sampling of all owners. I have spent maybe $1,000 on repairs and maintenance (includes a set of v-rated tires for $325) since I bought my car three and a half years ago. Not everybody has, say, a bad evap and a bad tranny. I haven't had these problems and I don't think I just happen to be the lucky one. Preventative measures for the tranny would be to have the fluid flushed at some interval, somewhere between 20 and 50 K miles. Then at least you've done what you can do. You could drive yourself nuts waiting for something to break- not what I would consider an enjoyable ownership experience. These cars are quirky and are not "drive it and forget it" like many Japanese cars. What you get back in return in my opinion is unparalleled safety, comfort, and decent performance and handling. Enjoy your car and good luck!
