Hi Mike, the first to check for when your "check engine" light goes on is that your gas cap was properly tightened after your last fill-up. This little goof up probably causes more "check engine" warnings than anything else. If you find that your gas cap was the cause, all you need to do is reset the warning light. Luckily for you, 1995 was the last model year that you could do this yourself on an 850. Check Bay13 at volvospeed.com, they should have instructions on how to do this. If your gas cap was properly thightened, then do have the dealer check to see what the problem is. The fact that you were low on oil is probably unrelated, but it was a lucky coincidence that you were alerted to that situation.
Good luck.
Koz.
