Just put a set of IPD sway bars in my car last weekend and the car somehow started developing a clunking noise everytime I shift into drive or when I come to a quick stop. You can feel the clunk in the brake pedal and it seems/feels to be transmission related. All bolts were checked for torque this weekend again and none were loose (including subframe bolts). All directions and settings were followed throughout the procedure.
When loosening the subframe, could something have stretched or gotten tweaked i.e. lower engine mount? Or am I looking at a transmission service? If a service is in order, are there any adjustments that can be done or do they need to tear the whole thing apart to do anything? Do the urethane sway bar bushings cause this clunking noise? Car does not clunk when shifting into reverse or park. The upper engine mount is in good condition (IPD urethane).
The engine appears to be loaded a little heavier when sitting at a stop, almost like the engine is straining. The trans oil is changed everytime I change the engine oil as preventative maintenance (given all the horror stories I've seen on the BB) and is at the right level. The oil is clean and not burnt.
Will the OBDII throw codes for the transmission or is this a dealer item to check out? No idiot lights are on.
Thanks in advance for any input.
