Report on SuspensionChanges 850 95

Well, after a lot of delays waiting for parts, my '95 854 Turbo Sedan now sports a full set of suspension performance modifications: ipd anti-sway bars, Koni Adjsutable Sport shocks, Eibach springs and camber kit. I also had the stock (original) rubber bushing on the upper engine mount replaced with the ipd poly bushing.

First impressions (after about 50 miles) are that the suspension is tight - maybe more so than most drivers would prefer, and the handling is worlds better. Very little dive or squat, flat through moderately aggressive turns and turn-in that makes the stock setup seem like using reins on a farm wagon. At highway speeds on the freeway the car feels well planted and solid and the low speed reaction to bumpy streets goes away completely. I had -1 degree of camber applied during the 4 wheel alignment but will have to do some aggressive corning to see the results of that adjustment.

This Saturday it's off to Thunderhill Park in Willows for an SCCA Street School where the whole package can be put to play. The understeer is supposed to go from moderate to light with the anti-sway bars, that, combined with the negative camber and shocks might provide some different handling. I'm used to being able to trail brake pretty heavily into turns and I might have to learn some new manners with reduced understeer.

I'll let you know how it all goes together.
