I had serious alignment problems that no one seemed to be able to solve - then I decided to start changing everything. Turned out to be the struts were completely shot. It's hard to tell in these cars because the springs are so good/well matched to the weight of car. It's pretty expensive to just change the struts because you think they /might/ be bad though...
I was appalled that the alignment guys weren't weighing in on the condition of the struts. I've had my car in for an alignment and had them call me back and say "the ball joint is pretty worn so I'm not going to line it up till you get it fixed". You would think they'd have look/feel of the suspension before they got to work on an alignment too...
