I think I want to get an OBD code reader for my v40 so that I can start to figure out why my check-engine light is coming on. I did an initial little web-search but was quickly overwhelmed with all the differing devices and options there seems to be out on the market. I'm wondering if anybody can give me a simple run-down of some of the options and choices I need to make? I'd like to stick to a budget under $150, but I'm interested to hear if spending any more than that might be worth if for what you get?
I'd like to be able to read my codes thrown, and also be able to turn off the light as an option at the very least in a device.
I have seen on u-tube however that there seem to be devices that will connect a PC via a laptop? :
OBD2-PC-interfaces: ElmScan 5 Compact vs OBD Link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHBu8t7AXQQ)
Can anybody give me a quick run down of what device(s) they bought and their experiences using them?
Thanks!
