One of the local dealers quoted me $350+ to replace the $10 valve. Go to the dealer and pick up the new valve, there are 2 types and only one fits.
As to finding if the evap leaks, my local AC specialist said that he can stick a probe into the center dash vent and check for R134a gas.
The least of the worries of pulling out the dash is the airbag. Two torx screws and it is out - just leave the ignition off. If you do the disassembly, take pics constantly so you know where the screws go and how the wires are arranged. Fix the dash mounts while you are at it. You will need to visit Snap-on to get the proper tools for removing installing the lines to the evap.
After I had my valve replaced (AC shop), along with the bread clip fix, the AC lasted for 4-5 weeks before I needed a new 12oz can. Much better than every 2 days!
