Ball Joint Replacement 850 9X

Ok, so I'm a RWD guy in FWD. I helped a FWD friend replace his ball joints, with attached lower control arm, on his 850 Turbo. We had to go through all sorts of BS to get the ball joint pin out of the strut. What is the easy way or tool used to do this?
