You may have a defective or otherwise unhappy headlight switch. You can pull it from the dash and give its innards a good cleaning, this may help elliminate the problem. If you always have your headlight switch in the on position, with the ignition off, cycle the switch 10 or so times as this may clean the contacts without pulling things apart. If this doesn't work, you may want to look into the dimmer "slider" switch.
