I took a different approach to solving this problem. With the price of portable cd players becoming incredibly cheap, and the portables having extremely good skip protection, I purchased an aiwa portable with cassette interface, car adapter power, and a wireless remote. The remote works great skipping to the appropriate song, powering off the unit, and powering it on. The portable fits well under the sc-811, and the wires are fairly out of the way. Having a somewhat visible portable may not work well in major cities due to crime, but here in suburbia it is just fine.

I can change cds in the car. I replaced the cassette adapater from aiwa with an old one from sony since the sony had adjustable head, and improved the imaging of the sound. Needless to say, the sound stereo is much improved over cassette, and I saved about $350.00 on getting a cd changer in the trunk. And these portables offer dsp enhancements eg bass boost, dynamic extensions, etc. Perhaps with the savings I can get a mp3 player to connect up via the cassette interface for other media sources.
