Struts & shocks question 850

Just replaced front struts & seats plus an alignment. They and the rears are original 149k miles. Did not do the rears, but I think I should. Seems a bit hard at the back now the fronts are in. Do struts and shocks wear out at same rate? Would I need another alignment after replacing the rears. Does driving with worn rears affect handling much, other than comfort?
