Tailgate chirp driving me crazy, and I cannot find it! V70-XC70 1998

I had the same persistent problem--called it a 'cricket'. Found that the body-mounted steel striker for the tailgate-mounted latch has lost its plastic wrap/coating. The instant and permanantfix was to wrap it with four turns or so of electrical tape.
