Can remotes lose their programming? V70-XC70 1999

My 99 V70 had 3 working remotes. One was kept in a desk drawer so it hadn't been tested recently. The other 2 were used regularly. Yesterday, one of them would not activate the locks, but the the other works.

Testing the 3rd one, nothing happened. So, I replaced the batteries in the 2 that were not working. They still don't work. Does it ever happen that the computer in the car forgets about remotes in the course of being parked for an hour or two?
