If you get the same error with every PDF you open, the problem is probably with your installation of the reader, you might try deleting and reinstalling. If it's just with specific files, that means the file depends on a specific font that wasn't included by whoever created it. Reader will substitute a similar font, but it could be that the creator used some unusual variation of a font that included specific characters that can't be rendered properly. Reader is a pretty amazing and useful program for free. Including high-resolution images makes for very large files: if the creator used low resolution images to keep file size down, is that Adobe's fault?
