Is yours a manual or auto gearbox? If auto, is it the new 5-speeder? My '99 V40 LPT has no noticeable lag, but it is a manual, so what you give to the throttle you get at the wheels. I've read some test reports which criticise the new 5-speed auto on the 2000 model as slow to respond to throttle input.

There's some tweaks to try, however. Check the throttle cable adjustment at the throttle body: mine had too much slack, which made town driving jerky. Adjust it so there's almost no slack in the cable, but make sure the throttle plate is still against its stop.

Also, if you have an auto, try giving it just a little more throttle than you think it needs when moving from rest. This will a) get the turbo spooled up fast and b) tell the autobox (which is supposed to be one of these "smart" ones which adjusts to your driving style) that you want to get going fast.

A final thing is to check the hoses that run to and from the turbo control valve (mounted behind the airfilter) and the hose that goes from the inlet manifold to the turbo housing. Make sure these are not kinked, trapped etc. My car had two of these hoses poorly routed, and both were nearly crushed flat from being trapped. Re-routing them made quite a difference to throttle response -- especially the hose that leads to the turbo pop-off valve.
