A bad ECT will cause the engine to run super rich. If the engine warms up and the ECT is still reading zero, the engine will flood. Flooding the cylinders will wash the rings of oil and that means you have no compression.
This is also a cause for lawn mower syndrome, and the cure for that is to crank for more than 30 seconds with the gas pedal on the floor. Full gas during starter crank tells the ECU to NOT inject fuel. Once the oil pressure light goes out, oil will begin spraying onto the rings and compression will slowly come back.
Or, add a table spoon of oil to each cylinder and then start the car.
You will need to change the oil because there will be a lot of gasoline mixed in with it.
