This is a slightly ongoing problem. Did a dash removal. A week later, the car starts acting oddly (electrically). The car would not start, nothing. If you tilted the steering wheel (unlocked it, moved it), there would be a point when the lights would go on and the car would start. OK>>>must be a short, a crimped wire. I removed the dash (again)... I find that the black wire that attaches to the steering wheel (possible ground) is fried... some of the insulation is missing. I tried tracing it back...even opened the harness bundle. No other wires appear to be affected. BUT...when you try to start the car, that wire is HOT!!!
Now, with the key OUT OF THE IGNITION, and you step on the brake...the dash lights and the headlights go ON...
I replaced the ignition switch last week.... no change.
The car now sits in my driveway... battery disconnected.
Symptoms:
Step on brake, key off (out of ignition), the lights go on and the dash lights go on.
No cranking...nothing!
I have no clue where to start, what to do...
I live on Long Island, N.Y. and would buy anyone dinner for some assistance. I am on my own on this thing.
