oil leak source?!?!? V70-XC70

1998 V70 GLT- FWD, turbo, 185,000.....

An oil leak as of late- I can smell it burning, from around the back of the valve cover, I think, though I just cleaned it up good to be sure.
Now I know, I well know that it could be an array of things, but, can anyone offer me some things to check out and maybe eliminate from the list???
