S60 Cruise Control S60

As I mentioned in another question, I just joined the FWD world from my 744 and 965 Volvos with an '01 S60 T5.

Driving home after purchase I was unable to get the Cruise to work, but that may be an operator problem (ME!). (2) questions follow:

1) When pushing the top "Cruise" button at the top left of the steering wheel is there a light or a message that comes on anywhere that verifies that the Cruise has been switched on and is in standby awaiting a set speed command?

I tried activating the buttons (I gather either + or - will engage the unit according to the Manual?), and even tried the other buttons, but never had the throtle take over to maintain speed. It acted "dead," or I was doing something wrong.

2) I could not find a fuse labeled "Cruise Control" either in the Manual or on either fuse box label. I was thinking the simplest problem might be that the cruise computer was not getting power (also since nothing came on to tell me cruise was "armed" after pressing the Cruise switch on the left side of the steering wheel. IS there a cruise fuse installed?

I have a "Service Engine" annunciate on the drive home (amber "!") before I tried the Cruise Control. I would imagine that having it on does not disable the cruise function when activated.

I plugged in an OBD II scanner, and no codes are indicated, nor do I have a MIL for anything.

Thanks,
Bob
