Posessed headlamp wiper?!?! S70 2000

Went out tonight, started up the car, and the right from headlight wiper was wiping away. The drivers side was still. Turned off the car, started back up, it started wiping again. Ran through a couple cycles of washing the windshield, and that stopped it.

Are each of these wipers on their own circuits, and do they have their own motors? Is there a good explanation as to what could be wrong? It's going in the shop, but I'm just curious.
