Depends on your wallet. It is just a convient time to do so, the ECT is just below the thermostat housing. Usually if the ECT goes bad, there is a code and the CEL will light up. The ECT also shows the temp on the instruments, and if it is fluctuating it is probably good.

Give thought to flushing the antifreeze this spring, use Volvo even if it is 'expensive', you just need one gallon.
